What is a Road Gully?
A gully is a ground level drain which collects road debris and allows the discharge of rainwater to main sewer or soakaway. A gully consists of a concrete pot positioned beneath the road surface with an iron grate visible from the road.
Why is my Road Gully not working?
A gully can commonly become blocked with leaves, silt and other debris. This stops the rainwater from discharging meaning the water will back up and overflow, causing flooding. This can become particularly problematic during heavy rainfall or freezing conditions.
What do i do if my Road Gully is blocked?
The best way to avoid having a blocked road gully is to have a regular maintenance schedule in place. However, unblocking and regularly cleaning works in the same way. We would attend site with one of our specialist jet/vac combination tankers to pump out and jet clean the debris from the gully pot. We would then high-pressure water jet the outlet pipe to ensure the system is free flowing.
Who is responsible for Road Gully Cleaning?
The responsibility of a road gully solely depends on its location. Usually the local authority would be responsible for all road gullies on highways. You would usually be responsible for road gullies within your property’s boundaries and on private land.
